Home Security Trends

Home Security Trends

Due to the rising insecurity in the world today, demand for residential and business security systems is also growing. With demand for these services, many companies are opening up with the aim of providing the same. While most are genuine in their operations, others are in the market just for the money and their services are of questionable character. This has seen a change in the home security trends.

To maintain their client base, the genuine firms are offering more personalized and affordable services. They are offering more modified modes and competitive ranges of service and products respectively. With these, affordable and compatible systems are gaining popularity with homeowners. These systems include burglar alarms, fire alarms, remote video monitoring, video surveillance systems with digital video recording, with most of the known systems offering 24-hour service command.

While the goal of the alarm system is to stop an intruder before they make an attempt, one should not overlook the effectiveness of using other systems together with it. Other home security trends includes handing over the same safety provider from one generation to another. A resident that has been using a particular firm for many years, will automatically leave the services to their next of kin or to the new homeowners.

Other home security trends that are emerging, are the guarantees that firms carry out monthly monitoring to ensure that their customers are comfortable. However, this does not involve any increase of their rates. Most companies offer lifetime warranty and do not demand any extra Charges outside what has been signed for in the contract apart from the replacement of spare parts.

How High to Set a Home Insurance Excess

How High to Set a Home Insurance Excess

Anyone who has shopped around for home insurance recently may have noticed an interesting trend - with the excess (deductible) offered by home insurance providers gradually creeping north.

The excess is the amount that the insured person pays in the event of a claim. So for example, if you had a £100 excess and made a successful claim for £1,000 after an insured event, you would pay the initial £100 with the insurer covering the remaining £900.

Why are excess levels increasing?

According to financial analyst Defaqto, the number of firms with a £100 excess on home insurance policies rose by seven per cent in the last 12 months. Indeed a number of insurers have even increased their standard policy excess to £200. Though some providers offer the opportunity to reduce the standard excess, this is generally only done in return for higher premiums.

There is also a new trend emerging in which insurers impose higher excesses for certain risks - for example, claims relating to the escape of water often require a £250 excess.

There are several reasons why this is occurring. One is that insurers want to limit their exposure and reduce the number of small claims that are made.

Secondly, consumers are now becoming more accepting of higher excesses. The gradual increases have become commonplace and many consumers even overlook the policy excess altogether in a bid to find a cheaper deal.

Why you shouldn't overlook the excess

When buying an insurance policy it's easy to simply look at the price of the policy, but the excess level is crucial too. Finding up to £250 at one time to cover an insured loss could be difficult and wipe out the purpose of cover for many events you are supposed to be insured for.

Remember you don't have to set the excess high to secure a cheap premium. Boosting the security of your home, fitting smoke detectors and paying annually instead of monthly can all help reduce your premiums.

Some Ways In Which To Upgrade Your Home Security System

Some Ways In Which To Upgrade Your Home Security System

When you originally brought the security system that you have on your home you felt pretty secure and was only one of the few who could afford such a system. Unfortunately the problem is that the system you have now has become outdated and will not protect your home in the same way that many of the newer systems can and may be it's time you considered upgrading the system you have?

There have been so many advancements in the home security system that you have decided that you really do not want to be stuck with a system that will not provide you the right sort of protection. I mean if you want you could have keyless entry or a thumb print entry system? In fact today you can set up your home with the latest technological items in security, such as a Wireless system or hidden cameras in the home. For many the crime rates in their area are not getting any better and so having a good security system is a must for many.

One such security gadget which is finding a place in many homes is the Wireless infrared camera, which Watches over the home whether you are inside asleep or away from it say on vacation. The great thing about these types of cameras is that they can be monitored from a laptop computer as there is software available which you download onto your laptop and thus link you into the home Wireless security system you have installed.

If you can afford it why not look at having double layered home window glass installed (which is lined with Plexiglass). A burglar who attempts to gain access to your home by breaking a window will be surprised as they will not be able to get through the Plexiglas layer. Not only will you feel extra secure in your home because of these windows but your home will be practically impenetrable.

A lot of people nowadays have the latest camera systems installed in their homes for use with their security systems as many of them are now completely wireless and can Watch almost any part of the home (both inside and out). These can be set up in any area and will see all areas of the house and garden from almost every conceivable angle possible. They also have the added benefit of you being able to hook them up to your laptop or a computer (so whilst at work you would be able to monitor you house at the same time). Plus you may decide to have motion sensors installed and when these are activated a camera will take a picture of whatever has caused the sensor to be triggered.

All these devices are now part and parcel of the new types of security systems that are available and which far outstrip the types of systems that first became available a few years ago. So why not think about upgrading your system now and just carrying out a search on the internet you will soon find what kinds of upgrades are available to the system you already have. But should you not like the upgrades available, then it may be worthwhile considering a whole new home security system installed instead.
